Overview
My role involved data analysis, reporting and project management within the learning and development area of Volkswagen Group UK. Specifically, my role involved creating and reporting on training (eLearning, Face-to-face, and virtual classrooms). The aim was to improved certification rates and ensure the network were trained to the best of their ability, whilst making sure that training is engaging and effective.
Skills
I have hugely developed my presentation skills, I have learnt new data handling and excel skills, I have undergone personal growth and been able to improve my teamworking and project management skills.
Responsibilities
Yes, my manager was able to give me a variety of projects in which some I was the sole owner of and therefore held ultimate responsibility, while others I supported on.
Support & Guidance
A lot, there was an entire cohort we could ask for help. Within my team also, there were many colleagues who were more than happy to offer support where required. My manager in particular was very supportive throughout, we had weekly check ins to go over my workload, how I was feeling and look at if there was anything else I wanted to do within my year.
Culture
This changed over the year, at the beginning of the year it felt as though we did a lot more as a team (RLS) and with our wider team (GCS). The culture in the beginning felt more inclusive and friendly. Towards the end, there wasn't much engagement at all between RLS and GCS and it felt as thought we were not part of the same team. The general atmosphere within my smaller teams (Commercial L&D and RLS) became much more relaxed as I became more confident and comfortable in my role.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement, however I would steer away from a corporate business for my next role as I would be keen to do something that was more 'out and about', which is purely personal preference.
No
That to enjoy the job, I feel as though you would have to have a passion and interest for the company's past and future. I would suggest that people have an interest for the automotive industry and perhaps enjoy working on a computer.
