    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Trial planning for coffee prototype production . Planning and writing shift lists for pilot plant running to produce coffee. Calculations regarding trial lengths and liquor collections for prototype production. Writing briefs for meetings to introduce trials to operators and inform them of their role. Interactions with external contractors requesting work, quotes on new equipment and exploring new technology.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed my presentation skills when giving briefings and debriefs to stakeholders regarding trials. I have also improved my time management and quality of work having to manage multiple different work streams simultaneously. I have been able to apply my theoretical knowledge from university to real world situations when operating machinery to produce coffee prototypes.

    Responsibilities

  • I was given a lot of responsibility in my job role but was never left to feel overwhelmed with what was required of me. There was always support available if I needed it so as I became more familiar with the role I could be more independent and take on more responsibility

  • I received plenty of support and guidance but most importantly I could ask for more or less depending on how I felt and how I was doing. When I wanted to challenge myself to develop I could work very independently with little support to challenge myself. However, when I needed support it was always available

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company atmosphere was fantastic and all the interns were made to feel very welcome in the office. There were team activity days at our team meetings which helped us to feel like part of the team and bond with our colleagues

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my placement as the job role suited me very well and the atmosphere in the office was very friendly and welcoming. I was able to settle in quickly and I felt the work I was doing was very important and meaningful which was fulfilling.

  • Do apply for a role at JDE, especially in R&D as the team there are fantastic and explore some really interesting and novel technology.
