Overview
In my role at Softcat PLC, I manage several critical aspects of the order fulfillment process to ensure smooth operations and customer satisfaction. Here’s a breakdown of my day-to-day responsibilities: Managing Autobuyer Issues: I handle issues related to autobuyers, which involves coordinating with both suppliers and internal teams to resolve any problems that may arise. This ensures that the autobuying process runs smoothly and efficiently. Order Verification: I ensure that all orders are processed correctly and accurately before they are invoiced. This involves a thorough review to confirm that all details are correct and that the orders meet our quality standards. Handling Failed XML Orders: I manage the failed XML orders, which act as a safety net for orders that have not been placed correctly. This requires me to identify and rectify any errors to ensure that all orders are correctly processed. Data Analysis: I conduct data analysis on recurring issues with the autobuyer system. By identifying common problems, I can present these findings to management, providing them with the insights needed to address and resolve these issues effectively. Collaboration and Communication: My role requires constant communication and collaboration with various teams, including suppliers, internal departments, and management. This helps in maintaining a streamlined workflow and addressing any challenges promptly.
Skills
Networking Skills: Attending the many social events organized by Softcat has significantly enhanced my networking abilities. These events have taught me how to be more social and connect with a diverse range of people, including those I wouldn't normally interact with. This has not only broadened my professional network but also improved my interpersonal skills. Technical Skills: I've gained substantial technical skills, particularly in using Excel, Power BI, and Power Automate. These tools have been invaluable in managing data, automating tasks, and generating insightful reports, which have improved the efficiency and accuracy of my work. Time Management Skills: My role has required me to develop strong time management skills. Establishing and sticking to a daily routine has been crucial in ensuring that I meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks effectively. This has helped me become more organized and productive in my day-to-day responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given significantly more responsibility during my placement/internship than I initially expected. A prominent theme of my internship was managing my own projects. This involved not only executing day-to-day tasks but also taking ownership of various initiatives that had a direct impact on the team's operations and overall efficiency. Handling these projects allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the business processes and contribute meaningfully to the team's success. It was a valuable experience that taught me how to manage responsibilities independently and effectively.
Support & Guidance
During my placement/internship, I received a substantial amount of support and guidance. Managers were always available to provide direction and feedback, ensuring that I had the resources needed to succeed in my role. Additionally, Softcat has a robust mentor system in place, allowing interns to connect with mentors for neutral advice and support. This system was particularly beneficial as it provided an additional layer of guidance and a safe space to discuss any concerns or challenges. The combination of managerial support and the mentor system created a supportive environment that facilitated my professional growth and development.
