Overview
On an everyday basis, I am mostly working with agencies on the creation of assets, reviewing them and sending back feedback where necessary. I might also be organising meetings and preparing powerpoint decks for them.
Skills
I've learnt a lot of new skills but most significantly: communication (especially cross-cultural and cross-functional communication), confidence, critical/ strategic thinking, design.
Responsibilities
Yes a lot, you're given projects to lead that have an impact on the business. It can be stressful and you are thrown in the deep end but there will always be people around to support you.
Support & Guidance
It depends, I wasn't given a huge amount of support from my manager as they were very busy and so I feel like I didn't necessary learn a lot of hard skills. It sometimes felt like I was just getting all the smaller tasks done to support the team instead of learning on the job.
Culture
Depends on which part of the business you're in but I really enjoyed the company culture. There was a lot of social activities, almost everyone is really friendly and approachable and there was a general upbeat, exciting energy in my function.
Your Impressions
If I could rate it out of 10, it would be a 7.5. I enjoyed the placement but my highlights were almost definitely the people and the social parts over the day job itself. I would've liked to have more support for actual on the job learning.
Yes
Try to demonstrate your strategic thinking, problem solving and curiousity. I'd say those are some of the most important skills/ traits for Unilever.
