Overview
Every day as a videographer at Gymshark is different. Some days you will be on a 20+ person shoot, and then the next be editing for some exercise app content. This job also allows for work from home or from in the office, meaning you're able to work where suits you best dependant on what you need. Each week will involve different shoots and opportunities. This means that it is rare that you will find 2 days that are the same.
Skills
There have been a lot of opportunities for growth and lessons at Gymshark. Working in video means being able to work with some of the best equipment that is available in the industry. Going into this placement I hadn't used a lot of the equipment that there is available in the office. However, the great team at Gymshark are more than helpful when it comes to teaching you how to use this equipment. This placement has further progressed by editing skills and videography with a clear improvement in these skills being showcased across my work.
Responsibilities
From the very start of my placement it was clear that I wasn't going to be viewed as a placement. In my second week, I was filming and working with talent for the 2023 Black Friday campaign. This showed me that I was going to be given a lot of responsibility across my time as a placement here. This continued across the entire time at Gymshark, which is evident through now running the live shopping side of things from a video standpoint.
Support & Guidance
I have received a lot of support and guidance. This has ranged from support on shoots and teaching, to mental health support as well. Going into a new business can be scary, but the video team at Gymshark were massively helpful when it came to getting integrated into the business. The mental health first aiders that are available were also a massive help to me. It made me feel less like a worker and more like a valued person at the buinsess.
Culture
There is a big focus on company culture at Gymshark and this is evident from the office atmosphere. The company is big on getting people together and making sure that everyone feels valued.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot. I had lots of great opportunities to work on many different campaigns and shoots. I also have met some amazing people as well and some friends for life. Would definitely recommend the placement at Gymshark to anyone.
Yes
Being yourself is the most important thing. They're hiring you at the end of the day and not your skills, even though they are still important. Make sure to show off your personality and sell them on you.
