Overview
During my placement year as a Procurement Assistant for the European team at Unilever, my role encompassed supplier management, stakeholder coordination, price analysis, and market research. I managed supplier relationships and contracts, ensuring optimal value and compliance, while collaborating with various stakeholders to facilitate timely and efficient procurement processes. My responsibilities also included conducting thorough market and price analysis to support sourcing strategies, managing purchase orders, tracking deliveries, resolving discrepancies, and contributing to cost-saving initiatives and continuous process improvements. This role allowed me to develop key skills in procurement and supply chain management within a global business environment.
Skills
I developed several specific skills crucial for effective procurement and supply chain management. I gained proficiency in using procurement software and tools for data analysis and supplier management, which enhanced my ability to conduct detailed market and price analysis. Additionally, I improved my strategic sourcing skills, learning to develop and implement sourcing strategies that align with business objectives. My communication and negotiation abilities were significantly refined through regular interactions with suppliers and stakeholders, ensuring successful contract negotiations and stakeholder engagement. I also learned to manage purchase orders efficiently, track deliveries, and resolve discrepancies, contributing to more streamlined procurement processes.
Responsibilities
I was given significant responsibility. I managed supplier relationships, conducted market and price analysis, coordinated with stakeholders, and handled purchase orders and delivery tracking. I also contributed to cost-saving initiatives and process improvements, highlighting the trust placed in me to support key procurement functions.

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year.The role offered me valuable hands-on experience, allowing me to develop key skills in supplier management, market analysis, and strategic sourcing. My advice for future interns in a procurement role at Unilever would be to proactively seek opportunities to learn and contribute. Embrace every task, no matter how small, as it provides valuable experience and insights. Build strong relationships with suppliers and stakeholders, as effective communication and collaboration are crucial. Stay organized and pay attention to detail, especially when managing contracts and purchase orders. Lastly, take initiative in identifying potential improvements and cost-saving measures, as this can make a significant impact and demonstrate your value to the team.
