    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role was to support my team in launching a successful 360 campaign for different products and franchises. This involved creative projects within each marketing channel, as well as more data-driven everyday tasks to analyse performance. On a day-to-day basis this included: - Briefing creative agencies to localise marketing content - Leading the packaging development process for new products by adapting artworks and coordinating across various teams - Reporting weekly and monthly sales, as well as market and competitor data analysis - Designing website product and category pages for new products - Coordinating market research campaigns - Designing creatives and writing copy for social media posts - Ordering stock to the office/suppliers and sending products to influencers

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have developed many skills whilst working at L’Oreal, but the following are the most significant. I have greatly improved my data analysis and Excel skills after writing numerous reports using the company’s database and Google Analytics. My copywriting skills have also developed from designing website pages and writing social media captions. A soft skill I have enhanced the most is problem-solving. An example of a regular obstacle I overcame was creating middle-ground solutions between Scientific and the Headquarters (who often had opposing views) during the artwork process. This, in turn, improved my communication skills and resilience.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • A lot! My biggest responsibility was the packaging development process. From the translations of a new product to the approval of the final artwork, I was in charge of each new project. I also led the project for a new virtual tool, which included starting a new campaign from scratch. These were my two biggest responsibilities, however, I also had smaller projects (e.g. re-designing a third-party website) that I managed or had a high level of control over.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The first two months were very stressful for me as I did not feel supported by my manager. My onboarding was not thorough and I had to manage several artwork projects without any training. However, after these 2 months, I received a new manager who was much more supportive and made the rest of my placement experience much less stressful. My team gave me many opportunities and recognition, which I highly appreciated.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere within my brand was super welcoming and had an overall good vibe. Everyone was very positive and supportive of one another. I think a reason for this was that our team valued teamwork and collaboration, creating good relationships between employees. Our team had multiple offsites and wellness days/activities, which boosted the teams morale. Our division also held regular socials, workshops and clubs (e.g. run, book).

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed my time at LOreal. I have made amazing friends and been inspired by such talented people. It has been very stressful at times (especially at the start) but I appreciate the responsibility I received, as it made me feel like a valued employee. I also enjoyed the 9-5 routine much more than expected and I will without doubt be entering my final year as a much more organised and hard-working person.

Also, feel free to be curious and ask questions about the company, just make sure to carry out some research before. Lastly, be friendly and open-minded to show that you can work well in a team.
