Overview
Ensuring cars are clean and safe before rentals. Working around delivery and collection slots for vehicles (non-airport locations). Checking customers into cars and ensuring they are being provided with good customer service. Learning how to run and become a manager of a branch through experience. Skills such as sales, communication, quick problem solving, dealing with difficult customers, marketing, business and people management are practiced on a day to day.
Skills
My ability to deal with difficult customers and quick thinking when it comes to problem solving and coming up with solutions has definitely approved across the year. Marketing and networking has also been a very key skill I have improved when talking with other renting account managers, and going into new businesses to set up new accounts with Enteprise, just putting forward what Enteprise can offer with their other business lines.
Responsibilities
Responsibility across the year increase the further in and managers will give more responsibility to those who understand the business more. Fortunately they will not offload their own responsibilities on others as the business is set up that managers are held accountable for smooth running of the branch.
Support & Guidance
Managers in my branch were very supportive and gave me plenty of guidance. The area managers and other branches within the area were also very supportive and created a great atmosphere during the placement.
Culture
Very inclusive, very relaxed and in a young environment so managers can be relatable and have more of a laugh.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the placement being at a non-airport location meant I could step out the branch and be on the road driving which made days go quick, and breaks up the day a lot more. From other interns, those in airports also enjoyed their placement and their experience, more set shifts, rotations of roles (I.e. returns, checkin, admin)
Yes
It’s definitely worth trying if you want to get a good base on dealing with customers and develop your communication skills. There are plenty of opportunities to earn more money through bonuses which get paid to your next months paycheck. If you’re okay with shift work and don’t really like driving loads, then airports are great. If you like driving around and don’t mind doing overtime here and there then home city locations are for you.
