    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes I was given leadership opportunities to run my own projects from start to finish. I was also given opportunities to utilise department budget for these projects and had multiple opportunities to contribute my findings to my team and senior management. Throughout the year I took leadership for over 3 - 4 different projects of different areas, all of which resulted in me working with new technology and new opportunities within the business. I was also given responsibility to support making events for other undergraduates as part of my volunteering I did to support the student led form of early careers within JLR.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Any time I was stuck there was always someone within the business I could turn to for support if my team could not provide that support. However, that was only needed for situations where my problem was software based since my team were all mechanical and electrical engineers. My team would often provide support as best as they could and would even give me people to contact outside of the team who they knew may be able to assist.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • JLR proudly supports efforts of diversity and inclusion, throughout my time here I have been impressed with the numerous events for different heritages and ethnicities that have always been constantly inclusive and informative. JLR has dedicated part of the company management to handle diversity and inclusion. JLR has many groups such as African and Caribbean Heritage society and Race, Ethnicity and Cultural Heritage society who champion events regarding diversity and inclusion. They actually surprised me with knowledge I was unfamiliar with about months such as south Asian heritage month which I (someone from a south Asian heritage) was completely unaware of existed. . On top of all of this, there are multiple smaller groups and networks that celebrate different religious and ethnic backgrounds. Overall, the atmosphere at JLR has always been great for everyone and has always made me feel happy to come to work.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Immensely great, I had opportunities here that I don't think I would have been able to ever receive elsewhere at the level I am currently at. I was able to actively take part in discussions and work surrounding vehicles present and future. I was able to contribute in ways that suited my background of software and also was able to experience different opportunities within the company. The events hosted throughout the year by the early career's team, were always beneficial and informative. I would definitely recommend this placement for individuals interested in motor vehicles and manufacturing.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to JLR
  • Apply with an open mind, if you take any interviews remember that they're just trying to understand what sort of person you are like rather than test your ability. Definitely consider the fact that you can take opportunities with different teams in the company once you have joined, so if you are placed with a team you aren't that keen on you can potentially swap teams or just do shadowing opportunities with different groups within JLR.
