    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily trend research across multi platforms, working with and presenting ideas to the buying and design teams, adapting trends into Primark handwriting, creating graphics and prints, developing an understanding of the products at Primark, following design briefs and tracking and managing design/trend amendments.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Over the year I learned how to research for seasonal trends using multi platforms and present trend ideas to buying and design teams. I also learned how to use Pantones correctly, how to make my own prints and graphics using Illustrator. Other new skills include range building, understanding customer profiles and store environment. I also learned about how the business works behing the scenes of socials and photoshoots. I developed my skills in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, communication in the workplace, presentation skills, my knowledge of garmet shape and construction and fabrications.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I liked that once I had settled into the job after a few months I was given more responsibilities which increased as time went on but I felt that the level of responsibility was appropriate for a trainee - I never felt that I was given too much or too little responsibility.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I really enjoyed my year in Primark, my team contributed majorly to this as everyone was so friendly and supportive from the beginning. I got to make lots of connections which I'll have for life, I enjoyed making friends with the other placement students and having the opportunity to live in accommodation together. Sometimes the work felt a bit boring or repetitive but overall I would say I had a good year.

  • 7. Would you recommend Primark to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Primark
  • Don't be afraid to speak and show your personality, shyness doesn't seem to work well in the company, the people are really talkative and friendly so try to be friendly to everyone. Showing enthusiasm and interest in the company is also key as well as time management.
