Overview
On a day-to-day basis I would do a lot of data analysis which I would report to the wider team. Everyday I took part in meetings with different functions such as merch, scientific, digital to discuss our upcoming projects. I led the amendment of artworks for our NPDs or renovation and communicated with agencies to apply our comments. I also had personal projects that I could work on with an agency such as creating assets.
Skills
Presenting is a skill that I have learned over the course of my placement. All interns received training from an external agency who gave us tips on posture, hand movements and general confidence tips. I also learned from watching my team who presented to senior management which showed me the importance of presenting and how it is an integral part of the job. This motivated me to create my own presentation for a strategy on one of our franchises which I presented to members of my team.
Responsibilities
I believe that I was given a lot of responsibility on many tasks especially after I started to get comfortable in my role. I have been responsible for amending artworks since the beginning of my placement and only asked for support of final approval from senior management. I was entrusted with leading activations such as briefing and supplying comments to retailers for POS material such as aisle fins or floor stickers. I also led our first magazine activation in creating 2 key visuals printed in lifestyle magazines.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance from my team whether it was constructive feedback or teaching me from the basics. However, my team did it to an extent in order for me to have the opportunity to learn myself. I was very comfortable asking my team for support whenever I struggled with a task. Thanks to their support and confidence in me I was able to excel and develop the skills I struggled with at the beginning of my placement.
Culture
I believe that everyone has a very positive attitude and there is a collective aim for employee growth. The people I have worked with have a great work ethic which personally motivated me to do better. I really enjoyed being a part of the company and experiencing the culture. What I really enjoyed was the open communication between my team and the importance of development in all aspects. I felt extremely supported by my team which pushed me to do better.
Your Impressions
I cannot praise this experience enough I got very lucky to be able to work with such an amazing team which I believe made a difference to my whole placement. I have evolved personally and work wise. My confidence has grown which was something I wanted to develop for a long time. My business acumen has evolved and I have really enjoyed having real life examples which helped me understand different business terms. This experience has taught me to think outside of the box and stay creative.
Yes
My advice would be to study the LOréal portfolio and all the company values because these are the things that will make you stand out in your interview. Any work experience is great which you can refer to during interviews and always give examples of when you showed a particular quality such as ambition, team work, problem solving etc. I would also say that you have to be prepared to learn a lot and stay agile because you are expected to take on responsibilities and produce good quality work even as an intern. My advice is to say yes to all experiences as you have a year which may seem like a long time but it goes by so quickly.
