Overview
Working on designs for new counters/new launches Assisting all Luxe brands with smaller projects Using SketchUp / Adobe Illustrator / photoshop/ inDesign Creating and sending briefs to external suppliers Travelling to check our counters Travelling to suppliers for meetings/pre-merchandising Researching competitor activity Team admin - sending out post, booking travel, booking catering, booking meeting rooms, updating maintenance guidelines etc. Merchandising new/ refitted counters Ensuring counter maintenance issues are resolved Organising and managing counter removals & closures
Skills
Yes, I have a learnt a lot of new design skills that will definitely help me a lot going into my final year of university (studying environments design @ loughborough) I have learnt to manage design projects and lead design discussions whilst also playing a vital role as part of a bigger design team. I have learnt and developed the skills to communicate and form relationships with different types of suppliers in order to ensure good design outcomes and design fluency. I have been able to work on my ability to use 3D and 2D design software to communicate my designs and work to relevant parties.
Responsibilities
Yes, providing I was able to complete standard intern tasks such as assisting the team with smaller admin/operational projects. I was able to then progress further through my completion of my role in order to take on bigger design projects and was able to build on my tasks until I was able to manage an entire counter design and install myself.
Support & Guidance
I was able to have 1:1 meetings with my manager 2-3 times a week to make sure I was on track with all of my tasks/ projects as well as support with my well being within an office environment. I was also constantly supported by the wider retail design team and always felt comfortable to ask for help or guidance when needed
Culture
Generally the culture within the retail design team is super nice and inviting, the atmosphere was quite calm whilst also being fun and stimulating to work in. I attended various social events throughout the year which I enjoyed thoroughly and was able to bond nicely with the people I worked with.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the time spent at my internship. I was able to work on a vast range of projects and see the behind the scenes of big beauty brands whilst also working within a supportive and uplifting team and environment.
