Overview
I operate as a business development representative for my team. I sell the company’s products to customers through multichannel inbound and outbound sales activities (cold calling, LinkedIn outreach, emails). To do this effectively, I need a working understanding of Adobe's value proposition as well as an understanding of how our potential customers operate. A typical day involves a few internal meetings, dedicated time for research on customers and selling activities (sending messages and having calls).
Skills
I've developed my commercial awareness and understanding greatly through my internship at Adobe. Developing a tangible understanding of how businesses operate is crucial to achieving success in the field and that has been my main takeaway from this placement year. I've also developed my confidence greatly as a result of having to speak with customers, present and lead meetings.
Responsibilities
I was given a substantial amount of responsibility during my internship. I was tasked with delivering a presentation to one of the public sector's largest clients and I developed a new approach to outbound sales activity for my team. During my time at Adobe, opportunities to have a tangible impact on my team and the business at large were definitely available.
Support & Guidance
Adobe has a bit of a hands-off approach to working. Guidance and support is available if you seek it and all the information is available, but you are free to work in a manner that best suits you. I received guidance and support whenever I asked for it.
Culture
It's a friendly culture. I never felt as though I couldn't walk up to anyone and have a chat. Everyone is open and willing to help/offer advice. It's a collaborative work environment and there's always a lot of conversations taking place on the sales floors. You can work anyhow and anyway is best for you. It's flexible, welcoming and you can hold your experience to your liking.
Your Impressions
I loved it. I was exposed to so much that I hadn't been exposed to. It was tough at times as I had a lot to learn and adjusting to a new type of work environment was difficult, but that's the point of having an internship! Learning and expanding your capacity is the entire point.
Yes
Don't leave your personality at the door. If anything, it will be your Unique Selling Point.
