    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role is supporting with the marketing activities of the brands I work on. I support and lead on material creation, project management, event organisation, as well as internal operations upskilling. Day to day is a dynamic role where I have a fair amount of responsibilities. I feel that my efforts genuinely contribute to the team and are appreciated.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Absolutely. I have learned project management skills which requires proactive communication. University tends to be a solo effort - lots of essay writing. At placement I am constantly collaborating and ensuring I have this piece of information to proceed with this step. I have enjoyed improving my teamwork skills.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was absolutely given responsiblity during my placement. In part due to team capacity, I ended up leading and contributing to large projects where I felt my contributions led to the success of the venture. There are a lot of checks and balances in the pharma industry, which means I often was able to lead on projects knowing that my work would be checked by compliance before being set live. This was a fantastic environment to feel comfortable to learn and lead, knowing that there is a safety net.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My support from my manager was excellent. She went through the placement programme herself years prior and so had that the intuition to know where I needed help and where I could rise to the occasion. The actual operational training from the organisation was available, but tough to find and engage with as the whole company was learning a new ways of working platform.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 5/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 5/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • During my placement there were some lay-offs company wide. This was a tumultuous time and meant moral was low during the winter and I felt apprehensive about outcomes for people I worked closely with as well as the wider team. However, overall, the general atmosphere has been a kind supportive one. Open to mistakes, even in a very detail focused industry such as pharma.

  • How would you rate the inclusiveness of the culture?
  • 5/5

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have enjoyed my placement work significantly. However, I would say that the location of the office is a fairly major con. You are in the middle of Surrey and the public transportation is minimal at best. This mean after work socialising with other undergrads was tough as was getting into London if we wanted to explore the city. No casual drinks and expect a long commute time, even if you relocate to the closest town as I did.

  • 7. Would you recommend Pfizer to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Pfizer
  • I would say learn and engage with the four core values of Pfizer (equity, courage, joy, and excellence) and speak to how you represent those values in your application.
