Overview
Working within EMEA, reporting on the state of marketing with weekly scorecards, management reports and condensing information into visual and legible formats. The occasional event work allowed ample time to practice client facing skills and work with other departments and regions to deliver results
Skills
Greatly advanced excel and powerpoints skills while also developing skills such as confidence and public speaking, coming into an element of professionalism and improving upon skills that had very little use outside of the workplace prior
Responsibilities
I thought originally I would be doing menial jobs, that simply lightened the load of managers above me. However I was given my own tasks that contributed to the business model and werent checked or questioned by everyone. presented real evidence and concrete proof of my work and was valued for the contributions made. the responsibility of having an autonomous role that can both fail and succeed is so much more rewarding
Support & Guidance
We recieved a great amount of guidance, with our induction, regular check-ins, access to the whole network of foundation events, learning schemes and were actively prompted to pursue new learning opportunities by foundation support
Culture
To my suprise, every single person I ever reached out to was willing to chat, or refer me to somebody else, the sheer kindness and community within IBM makes it so you never feel uncomfortable reaching out to another department or stranger for some info to aid in your work. This is only strengthened by their incorporation of all ibmers into events so that you can meet and talk with any ibmer over some fantastic events across the year
Your Impressions
My Placement was arguably the best year in my university course as it prepared me for corporate life but also developed skills in practice rather than just in theory. All in all I am greatly looking forward to my future employment and that is the result of a fantastic year at IBM
Yes
Reach out to people prior, they are all normally willing to give tips and chats, asking questions about the role shows interest in the role and the best way to do that is too ask people who were in the same position as you a few years ago
