    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Daily morning meeting, after this would not have anything to do unless I was tasked with something which very rarely happened. I would ask for work and would rarely have any given to me. I was told by my supervisor that he does not want me to go and shadow other people in the company as apparently I did not have the time for it.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • No, I was given one project where I was lead to believe I would take full responsibility of. However, I was very closely supervised while undertaking this project to the point where I felt I was just a puppet doing someone else's work rather than doing it myself.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very mixed. After speaking to many interns in my years cohort it was very clear not many people enjoyed their job and none of them were very motivated. Out of about 20-30 interns I only spoke with 2 who said they enjoy what they are doing. I know it has put a lot of people off going into the automotive industry including myself

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I did not enjoy it at all. After my third week I started counting down the weeks I had left which turned into counting down the days as I got closer to leaving. If I had not been tied down to an accommodation contract I would have left.

  • No

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK
  • Be careful when applying, you will probably not be doing what your job description tells you. Below are what some of the interns have done for their year here: Empty bins Order work wear Sit about until asked to do a task which very rarely came Move cars about for people to do analysis These are all different roles, not the same one.
