    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role as a junior developer included picking up tasks from my teams sprint board and fulfilling their requirements, these could be unit testing existing code, refactoring existing code, creating new functions, altering existing webpages or creating new ones, making changes to the databases to include new information, fixing any bugs or issues that were raised. etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to properly unit test code, how to use visual basic, C#, Microsoft SQL server. I have gained more experience with front end web development and windows forms.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • After My training period i was assigned low priority tasks but after that I was treated as a normal member of the team and was given the same amount of responsibility as any new (non placement) hire would have been given.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I was given briefs on any difficult tasks I picked up by my line manager and was able to ask any senior members of my team for help when I was stuck on a task. My team was very patient and helpful with me.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company was very inclusive and caring about personal needs and training, they treat all employees as individuals and try to ensure they receive any help or support we need. I was working mainly remote so I rarely went into the office but when I did my interactions with co-workers were very pleasant, everyone is polite and respectful.

  • I greatly enjoyed my Placement and am thankful for the opportunity to work at TopCashback. The experience was very good and helped broaden my perception of what working in the industry is like which will be helpful in the future. I hope to continue working at TopCashback In the future.

  • Don't expect it to be a very strict corporate environment where everything is micro managed like in a bank. TopCashback is very welcoming and flexible.
