Overview
During both of my seats, I had to complete work consisting of the following: - Completing legal research using legal databases - Enhancing my own knowledge through general research - Editing and enhancing slides - Undertaking organisational work for documents - Attending client meetings - Socialising with various people around the office
Skills
- Confidence: I feel significantly more confident as I am having to put myself forward when introducing myself to new people. - Resilience: the work is fast-paced and requires you to be on your feet, so I have worked through moments where that has been difficult. - Time-management: there are often not enough hours in the day to get all the work done, so it is important to prioritise and figure out what to do when.
Business Insight
It has been great learning about the business and experiencing the culture that the firm values and clearly acts upon.
Culture
Brilliant. DLA is what it displays itself to be - a firm that takes very seriously its ability to cultivate a friendly, welcoming culture around seniors who want to help you achieve your best.
Your Impressions
It is an enjoyable experience but can get quite tiring with it being essentially a 3 week interview. It has felt like a genuine and real experience, especially considering that the members of each team make you feel like a part of them, and give you work with trust in your ability.
Yes
Sharpen your basic skills such as attention to detail, communication skills, etc. You have to think about what you would expect someone with little to no legal knowledge to look like, if they were making up for the lack of legal knowledge with other traits. It is important to be punctual, diligent, and thorough, whilst still being friendly and working collaboratively with your fellow interns.
