Overview
I work within the retail marketing team across 2 brands in L’Oreal. This consists of me being a point of contact between brand and commercial teams to translate brand campaigns into retailer activations and ensure launches are seamless and successful. I work lots with retailers to complete partnership marketing, mainly Boots. I also am the lead brand contact for the Independent pharmacy channel across the two brands, meaning I create channel-specific content, present at cycle meetings and complete adhoc tasks for the team. I also work with the digital team to optimise the D2C website and promote campaigns throughout the year.
Skills
I have not only learned lots of business-specific knowledge over the past year at L’Oreal, but also developed key transferable skills, notably time management, prioritisation, communication and stakeholder management. My role has required me to multi task and handle lots of different projects at once so all these areas have been key skills to master.
Responsibilities
I was given much more experience than I expected, having been the brand contact for several functions and tasks within my brand. My managers allowed me to take ownership of tasks and trusted me to communicate externally and internally, which was really appreciated and allowed me to develop at such a high rate.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance throughout, mainly from my team and colleagues. I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement year as I’ve been surrounded by highly driven and intelligent people who have had lots of experience within the role and other divisions in L’Oreal.
Culture
It’s a very sociable culture and very team-centred. I’ve been working with an extremely driven team who have really appreciated curiosity, inquisitive and creative brainstorming.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement at L’Oreal. It was a great year learning from people who have had years of experience within the role, business, industry and wider sector. Everyone is keen to help the younger starters upskill and develop and really trust you to complete the job. I’m very grateful to have been given the opportunity I have and the responsibility I have at such an early point in my career.
