Overview
Usually a mixed bag of different kind of work, where your supervisor or somebody else on your team would assign you something to help them. This could include: contract reviews, meeting minutes, research tasks etc, but they would always depend on what the team needed. Were responsible for completing the tasks on time, and communicating that to others around you. Lastly, group presentation that you would be assessed on second week.
Skills
Yes, definitely. Learnt a lot more hard skills relating to legal research, contract reading/reviewing, and other things relating to legal documents However, it definitely forced to me to develop my 'softer' skills, especially pertaining interpersonal ones such as speaking to people, communicating ideas and points, and organisation.
Business Insight
It was made very clear. From speaking to associates to trainees, every person made it clear about the short term and long term opportunities available working at DLA Piper. Never felt like I was being left in the dark about what I could do, and there was a very 'sky is the limit' approach which was well appreciated
Culture
Generally very inclusive and friendly. Everyone in the firm at no matter what level or position they were at were extremely friendly, and if asked were willing to make time to have a conversation with you, which made the feeling a lot less intense.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the insight. The work was usually very interesting and varied, and the atmosphere was inclusive and friendly. The socials were also a lot of fun too!
Yes
Do your research before applying, and try to be yourself when doing any part of the application that would involve showing your personality. Try to ask questions where possible.
