Overview
Manage IT projects for Cummins internal customers from start to finish. This involves the planning and management of communications, risks and issues. Regular meeting are held and project reporting is required. There is the opportunity to interact with Cummins employees from different business units all across the globe, while also working closely alongside the local teams in the UK.
Skills
The main skills developed have been communication, problem solving, organization and collaboration. Communication is key to managing projects and I have learnt the most appropriate ways to to communicate to different stakeholders during the project. I have also developed my problem solving skills because every project is unique and often you come across problems that need to be solved with your project team. When managing multiple projects, organizational skills are essential to ensure all required tasks are completed and prioritised.
Responsibilities
The placement started with lots of support and the workload gradually increased as I built my confidence. By the end of my placement, I have been responsible for managing multiple regional and global projects and treated as a permanent employee. Throughout this time I have also had support from my manager and team when required.
Support & Guidance
I had weekly 1:1's with my line manager and weekly meeting with the Project Management team. I received support whenever I needed is and felt confident to ask for this.
Culture
Cummins is an extremely inclusive and caring company and their values are implemented in all work we do. The general atmosphere was very supportive and everyone strives to achieve excellence and help each other out.
