Overview
Depending on the team, typical tasks involved research, contract reviews, drafting documents and summarising cases. There was the opportunity to go to court and get involved in training modules.
Skills
My research skills have definitely improved. How to present work, be concise but precise are skills I have developed. General communication skills have improved, by reaching out to different members of the firm to learn more about their practice, and also communicating with my Line Manager in order to manage my work effectively.
Business Insight
The opportunity to sit across two seats during the placement was a great way to understand how the business works and what opportunities there are. Lawyers in departments I wasn't sitting in were also happy to make time to speak about the work they do which also helped me learn about the variety within the firm.
Culture
The culture was very collaborative - with work being done across different departments and different offices all the time. The general atmosphere was really positive with everyone meeting during lunch and a vibrant social scene. During my internship we took part in various social events including golf, darts, rounders and attended the office summer party.
Your Impressions
The scheme was a great experience which gave me the opportunity to meet lots of new people working across a range of sectors and workstreams, and to get involved it lots of different kinds of work. I was able to learn lots about the culture of the firm and how it operates across the world - and I could see where I could fit into that.
