Overview
As an intern, I got involved with real life matters and cases. For example, I attended client meetings, hearings, and internal training sessions. I conducted research tasks and undertook legal drafting, and attended firm events. As an intern, I was able to develop my legal skills and had the opportunity to engage with fee-earners at all levels: from trainees to Partners. Everyone was really approachable and happy to answer any questions I had.
Skills
I developed a few skills: - my research skills as a result of conducting research tasks - my team working skills as we worked on a group exercise - my communication / presentation skills - my networking skills - my attention to detail (through proofreading and checking work) - my legal writing skills I.e, drafting skills
Business Insight
The induction really helped me understand the firm and its global and sector approach. Having chats with the firm’s lawyers also gave me an insight into their role.
Culture
It was so welcoming and open. I didn’t feel like an intern at all- I felt part of the team that I was sat with. Everyone were really approachable and happy to answer any questions you had.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my experience with the firm, and would definitely recommend applying to DLA Piper.
