Overview
The Vacation Scheme involved scheduled talks from different areas and departments of the firm, as well as working directly with trainers (qualified lawyers at the firm) and completing various tasks for them such as drafting, research, administrative tasks etc. There were also multiple scheduled socials with the other Vac schemers, and firm-wide events to get involved with.
Skills
I learned multiple skills that will be highly useful as a trainee solicitor, such as learning about all the different documents that are used in a transaction, understanding how to use the different softwares at the firm. I was also able to practice professional networking.
Business Insight
I was able to strengthen my understanding of the different practice areas at the firm and broaden my knowledge and insight into the tasks of a trainee in each department.
Culture
The firm culture was very inviting; everyone at the firm was extremely friendly to the Vactation Scheme students, and willing to go on coffee chats and answer any questions we may have. In a broader sense, the culture at the firm is very collaborative and people-centred, it is a very accepting and inclusive environment.
Your Impressions
I highly enjoyed my Vacation Scheme and experience at the firm.
Yes
I would advise future applicants to thoroughly research the firm and also be authentic in the application process about their passions and motivations. I would advise them to not be afraid to draw upon past experiences, even if these are not law-related.
