Overview
The vacation scheme was an amazing insight into the firm, enabling me to sit in two teams over the 2 weeks. While I was set an assessed task each week,I was afforded flexibility to obtain live work from any teams I was interested in. The work was very similar to what might be expected of a trainee at the firm and provided a very realistic experience. My tasks ranged from drafting legal arguments to compiling evidence in the Litigation team, whilst the Employment team involved research of existing legislation and taking notes for client due diligence calls. This was complimented by 2 or so socials a week, ranging from Affinity group lunches to a dinner with partners on the penultimate day.
Skills
I have developed my drafting skills, ensuring that I steer away from legal-ease and am as concise as possible. I have also learned practical skills like how to compile an evidence bundle and how to run a redline.
Business Insight
A panel run by the Early Careers team and a trainee Q&A was extremely insightful for understanding the opportunities available and the several different paths into qualification.
Culture
The Early Careers team were incredibly helpful throughout, checking in with us often to see that we were getting as much out of the scheme as possible. I felt I could go to them, as well as my supervisors with anything due to the very supportive culture around the firm. Anyone I interacted with was kind, pleasant and friendly, ultimately standing the firm out to me.
Your Impressions
I had a great vacation scheme and would recommend it to anyone interested in a career in commercial law.
Yes
I would attend an Open Day, where you will get the opportunity to find out about unique parts of the firm such as the Tactical Opportunities team.
