The Role
It was a valuable experience, one which I am very glad to have had the opportunity to do. The two weeks were very exhausting but worthwile.
I instantly felt welcome and a part of the team. Everyone was very friendly and always willing to set aside time to explain things and have a chat about the firm generally and their own experiences.
My Trainee buddy was very supportive and gave me a good insight to the firm. I had very little contact with my supervisor but did get the chance to work with other members, at all levels, of the team.
In the first week I was particularly busy with research and drafting notes. In the second week the work was still quite a heavy load but slightly less due to assessments taking place.
I was given more tasks to do than I anticipated which meant I was not doing the typical photocopying all the time. I am glad I was given my own tasks to do as I felt more involved.
I think the skills, particulary as to research and drafting will be invaluable for future jobs and careers, perhaps not so much with my current degree.
The Company
The office had a brilliant atmosphere, despite the work being stressful, everyone seemed quite calm and down to earth - a lovely group of people.
The schedule was very busy but quite well organised. There were lots of changes but these were well notified and for genuine reasons.
Subsidised Canteen
I would love the chance to work with the firm and it has certainly confirmed that commercial law is a career I wish to pursue.
The Culture
The students got on extremely well and everyone was very supportive of each other.
I lived at home and commuted which made the journey extremely expensive and time consuming. In the evenings, the area is great for drinks and eating out but relatively expensive.
There were opportunities for extra curricular events including sports and office drinks. There could perhaps have been more, but in hindsight the schedule was very packed so there would probably not have been time!
