Overview
My role as a digital marketing intern involved website updates – banners, content, brand hubs, and catalogue, meetings with brands to align on new activations and general networking with people from varied professional backgrounds. I worked on various projects throughout my placement at L'Oréal to improve various factors of the website such as SEO, customer experience and data storage. Also had the opportunity to partake in several different ERG's in the company and events.
Skills
I have learnt so much throughout this placement! My digital marketing knowledge of how to use several different digital platforms has improved greatly and will be extremely useful in my future career. I've also had an in depth overview of the marketing world as a whole. I've gained a lot of knowledge professionally and in the use of my soft skills as well. I've become more confident, digitally savvy and efficient in the professional work space and can use a lot of these skills to navigate the rest of my future career progression. The experience has been invaluable.
Responsibilities
Yes! There's a lot to manage but it's very doable once you gain the skills which are taught by industry professionals. As a digital marketing intern I had to update the website for activations/ new product launches/ assets (banners, tiles etc). I also had to liaise with several brand teams weekly to monthly to coordinate on their brands advancement. I had several scheduled responsibilities' in order to keep the smooth running of the website and furthermore I had external responsibilities regarding the running of events and creation of ideas for my ERG.
Support & Guidance
I received an exponential amount of support throughout my placement! My team were really supportive throughout and made it known it was perfectly fine and normal for me to ask questions and prefer me to do so, enabling me to do the work to the best of my ability. There was never a time I felt lost or felt I couldn't ask for help. People outside of my team were also very willing to offer their expertise whenever available as well.
Culture
The company culture is very welcoming. People genuinely want you to get involved and express your ideas. There's also a strong emphasis on networking, upskilling yourself and pushing yourself to delve deeper into areas that interest you. In general, everyone is a hard worker and striving towards a better L'Oréal and working atmosphere which is nice as people try to make it as stress-free as it can be.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed this internship. I gained so much knowledge in my field, had the opportunity to work at the number one placement for my degree, networked with some amazing professionals internally and externally, had the opportunity to participate in events and sessions that I never thought I would and made some really great friends along the way. One of the best things I've done!
Yes
My best advice would be yourself. Sounds cliché, but genuinely I believe they're looking for someone who has a personality that coincides with the L'Oréal atmosphere alongside someone who would be effective in the position. Show you have the acumen to do well at the job but in general show who you are as a person and show that you benefit them!
