Overview
Supported the team of sellers by holding responsibilities including but not limited to: completing data analysis, creating sales materials, identifying potential sales opportunities, assisting with pre-sales work such as creating contracts & deal pricing, helping with improved management-level strategy and reporting of deals, and any other work which sellers required help with in order to progress deals. Outside of this role, I completed 100s of hours of learning, both related & unrelated to my role.
Skills
I have developed all soft skills, with clear examples on the tasks which I did to improve these skills. I have also exponentially increased my knowledge of sales and technology.
Responsibilities
I was given plenty of responsibility in supporting the sales team, through the responsibilities previously mentioned. However, the amount of responsibility was still capped, eg I wasn't allowed to go out and sell software myself, but this is of course to be expected to be as a limitation in an intern role.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support from both my task manager (who I worked with daily) and my foundation manager (HR manager for early professionals). I also received significant guidance from the sellers within my team as well as my mentors from other parts of IBM.
Culture
It's a friendly place to work. A key difference that you'll see at IBM compared to many other companies is the emphasis on work-life balance; it promotes healthy working patterns.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot. I've walked away having had noteworthy achievements whilst at IBM, I've learnt a lot, and I've met some great people; it's all that I hoped to achieve whilst here. I'd definitely consider returning to IBM in the future.
Yes
Just be yourself throughout the application process; if you pretend to be someone you're not, you'll eventually either fall through during the process, or have extensive difficulties with work once you join. Also, stay patient with the application process - it can take a while.
