Overview
Throught the year my role has mainly revolved around the management/production of tests seats. First I would upload the requested demand (bill of material) into our internal WMS (warehouse management system). I would then run coverage reports on these parts, liasing with the necessary material planners when needed to get parts orders on time. When required I would then produce the pick lists for our team to collect the necessary parts for the build. Lastly I would create the broadcast labels in IDPS so that the seats could be built down the production line.
Skills
During this placement I have gained new and developed my existing skills in a wide range of areas. For example my communication skills have greatly improved by having to effectively communicate with colleagues in plant but also in online calls. My leadership skills have also been enhanced this year through having to manage a small group of people to get parts picked on time and hitting our target dates consistently.
Responsibilities
During my placement I was given a huge amount of responsibility. This was due to an external colleague leaving, who I previously worked with on the management of test seats, meaning that I was now the sole person responsible for this process. I have also recently been given a new role, as PMO for customer (BMW) meetings. This is a huge responsibility as I am now the link between the plant management and the customer, This involves creating a weekly PowerPoint for all departments in plant and pressing to the customer.
Support & Guidance
During my placement I would have liked to have more support, especially when it came to workload. This was because very early on in my placement a huge amount of responsibility was put on me. I would have liked for my workload to be managed better and for the increase to be gradual as this was very overwhelming at the start of my placement.
Culture
The culture within my department was very welcoming and supportive. They made me feel very comfortable early on in my placement.
Your Impressions
I did enjoy my placement as I learned and developed a wide range of skills that I previously didn’t have. One of these was experience of the work environment that I previously didn’t have. I also improved my communication and leadership skills.
Yes
Forvia is a great place to grow and gain new skills. The placement student environment is very good, with everyone open to teaching you new sills.
