Overview
Focus on daily reporting, managing headcount and recruitment as well as focusing on payroll. Managing plant communications, this can include the creativity for newsletter, company councils and any other engagement schemes. Hosting employee engagement events for all members of staff on site. For HSE aspect, working with different departments and companies, keeping standards of mandatory PPE, ensuring audits are completed and maintained (e,g FM Global/Iso), managing deadlines as well as waste management.
Skills
I have developed my time management skills through meeting deadlines and completing work of necessary standards. I have learnt to take accountability, through running audits solo and being able to ensure everyone in the plant is aware of the standard of HSE needed. I have developed my confidence, with the ability to tackle different personalities if I am challenged in difficult situations
Responsibilities
I was offered the responsibility to run five separate audits, all within different weeks, this was a very fast paced time. As well as being in charge of managing the workwear and the PPE of all employees on the plant
Support & Guidance
At first it seems that there are people who are keen to ensure your development, however at times there seems to be a sort of standard that some people believe you should have already achieved before starting your role. However through the year it seems that there is a lot of support integrated at different times
Culture
FCM is the smaller site so it was definitely more personal and took me by surprise how much I loved it. I truly enjoyed the sense of teamwork between different departments. However it seems that if you go into HR, everyone seems to have a ‘bee in their bonnet’ so to speak and seem to think the department is always against them, so that was quite a difficult nature to balance out
Your Impressions
I did enjoy my placement based at FCM, i believe that the people really made a difference for the job. If at FCM, you have to be ready to be very few students and be ready to work with people of more experience
Yes
Do not let people stop you from learning, be a sponge and soak in as much from different departments as possible because time flies even when you dont think it will.
