Overview
My role involves supporting the team of Special processes owners who control the technical standards for repair work performed on engine hardware. I also support the New Product Industrialisation team to in-source new repair capability to the site. As a part of supporting these team i work as a tooling design engineer, designing tooling for process improvements and new repairs, which may be manufactured locally by 3D printing or external manufacture.
Skills
Substantial use of CAD for design of tooling, and creating Engineering Drawings for the tools. Extensive use of GD&T to define tooling specifications and substantiate there use in the case of limits, fits & tolerances. Development of presentation skills on both technical and non technical subjects, with the chance to receive feedback from subject matter experts to improve content and delivery skills. Development of time and workload management skills integrating within the team to take on responsibility for a range of tasks.
Responsibilities
The responsibility given progresses throughout the Internship as you gain more experience and competence for the tasks you are completing.
Support & Guidance
I received support and guidance from my Mentor and the rest of the team to develop my technical knowledge and understanding for relevant industry areas. I also had guidance from my Mentor and the Internship Committee members to develop personal and people skills, and to get the most out of the years work.
Culture
The atmosphere within all of the teams and offices is supportive and open to offer help where needed. The company culture allows for everybody to feel supported and valued, whilst offering opportunities to progress in your work/role.
Your Impressions
Working at GE has been a truly valuable Placement year and has offered me so much opportunity to develop my industry knowledge and understanding, whilst also progressing with my personal development and engineering skills.
