    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Assist our team for the Earth Observation Data Service for DEFRA. This involves me joining daily stand up calls, be given errors to investigate and subsequently fix or implement/improve tools for catching and investigating any issues. I also have several training courses that I can choose to take a part of throughout my day.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • After some training, I was given responsibility of developing for our health probe to help catch any issues or bugs that happen quickly and efficiently and over my time here I have been allowed to make this probe my own. Plus I have been allowed to develop my own demos to possibly show to clients. I have been entrusted with access to important files and features for development.

  • There was plenty of opportunities for training due to their Early Careers scheme and plent of opportunites for self improvement through their video courses you can follow along with. My team members were also more than available for any assistance I needed.

  • The company have been very kind and willing to help. Of the various events the company have hosted I have always felt welcome and comfortable.

  • I have enjoyed my placement thoroughly. The culture has been nice, the opportunities have been plentiful, the work has been satisfying. I would like to work here again after my last year.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to CGI
  • If you are moving house for your employment, ensure you have easy access to the office as even if you want to mostly work from home it is good to go into the office every once in a while. Also take up as many opportunities as you can, they great for networking and for vaying up your day for day.
