Overview
software developer working in either frontend or backend, depending on what work is required. Working mainly in 1 team but with the option to do work for others so across a few different codebases.
Skills
I've worked a lot with AWS, javascript, and git during this placement but have developed skills across a lot of areas like React for frontend and docker, kubernetes, nginx for devops. There is a lot of collaboration involved with working in a team so I've also grown in my ability to present and plan with others.
Responsibilities
Yes I was. Starting out with small tasks but by the end I was treated as a regular developer on the team and involved in the conversation for important decisions and higher profile tasks.
Support & Guidance
For the first few months I had regular meetings with people to support me but soon after I was left to work independently. However I still had a lot of people I could ask for help and they were always willing to support me when I needed it.
Culture
Everyone I met was so lovely, I don't think there is anyone I wouldn't want to stay in contact with afterwards. And the culture is definitely one of support and collaboration, from the very start I felt welcomed and always enjoyed working in the office around other people.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship. I found the work fulfilling and learnt a lot through it, the other developers I worked with were incredibly smart and always helpful, I was given a good amount of responsibility, the social aspect was amazing with everyone being so nice and there being a good number of events going on, and I felt very supported by my manager.
Yes
My interviews definitely were geared more towards getting to know me and seeing if I was a good fit rather than seeing if I had all of the knowledge and skills required for the job. That doesn't mean you don't need any technical skills as there was a technical round, but even this was more of a conversation/introduction, just about programming principles and development.
