Overview
Software development day to day working alongside project team members. Attending morning stand-up session, SCRUM ceremonies and scheduled project related meetings. Corporate social responsibility commitment management for my main project. Frequent opportunities for project management and on-the-job training.
Skills
I learnt much more about cloud development and industry relevant applications than I ever did at University. My code style had cleaner and more consistent. I received official certification training relevant to my project. Made use of the many chances to develop my presentation and project management skills. Overall, my interpersonal skills have developed massively.
Responsibilities
Yes. My development work played a key part in the progression of the project. Larger tickets were entrusted to me and there were many opportunities to present new features to the client. I took part in presenting SCRUM ceremonies. As social value manager, I presented meetings and in-person events to progress on our yearly commitments on behalf of CGI.
Support & Guidance
Even though I have received an incredible amount of support and training to get me to my level of confidence today, there were times where I was left to my own devices to problem solve. This was beneficial as I became independently capable. However, on a project so large, It was a big jump with less handholding than I would have liked.
Culture
My main office is one of the less popular ones, so it was mostly work trips that exposed me to the office culture. It was supportive, cheery and overall incredibly polite. Not once did I feel lost or alone around other members. Company culture in general is terrific. Lots of emphasis on member support and transparency. Goodwill and responsible initiatives always at the forefront of their efforts.
Your Impressions
I absolutely loved it. As soon as I get the chance to comeback, I will.
Yes
It takes a little onboarding and a good few questions to colleagues, but have faith that there's support for you wherever you need it. Get stuck into the progression support available and the benefits to your career will be clear. They genuinely want to help you develop.
