    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My role consisted of assisting more senior engineers with using calculation software PSCAD for modelling components, electrical systems, performing a variety of studies to ensure compliance with grid codes and report writing that would be sent to clients.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I learned how to apply my skills and background knowledge from uni through to practical applications within work. I had to increase background engineering knowledge to comprehend the extended breadth of theory required to do the role. I developed skills ith new softwares, PSCAD and Excel.

  • In the beginning not so much but as I progressed and became more confident with the work more responsibility was given ith report writing and individual work

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Not as much as would have been ideal but obviously other have there on work to attend to on top of helping me. There isn't a clear path for learning the software I was using so experiences difficulties at times.

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture was very good personally. I was made responsible for ensuring my work was complete and not being micromanaged all the time and treated well by everyone and with respect.

  • Be excited to learn is the biggest thing. This job will require a new range of knowledge for most people so making sure you're passionate to learn your craft is super important.
