The Role
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement- it was an invaluable experience and I have met some amazing people. The placement exceeded my expectations in all ways and I would encourage others to apply.
The firm is very friendly and approachable and whilst on the placement I felt like a valued member of the team and that there was a real purpose of me being there.
My supervisor was supportive, however I didn't see him as much as I would have liked and would have liked to have a feedback session at the end of my placement.
I had a very good balance during my placement as I was never without anything to do, but I wasn't so overwhelmed that I didn't have chance to get to know people within my department.
I was given responsibility to carry out a variety of work and I felt there was always support available to me.
As this was my first formal placement of this kind, I have gained an insight into how these placements work, including the assessment process. I will definitely take on board all the feedback I will be given and hopefully be able to work on this.
The Company
Everybody in the office was very friendly and approachable, though the office was very quiet throughout the day.
The programme was very well organised in general, though the assessment day ran way over schedule and needs to be altered for the next placement.
I felt a lot of effort went into the placement and everybody made an effort to get to know me. I was given a wide variety of work to help develop my skills and got high quality work which has given me an insight into what life as a trainee is truly like.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
In order to get a placement, it is extemely tough, but once here about 1 in 4 will be offered a job. This is still relatively low but much higher than when you are initially applying for the job. I believe there are approximately 1000 people applying for 12 jobs in the Leeds office. Doing a placement highly increases your chances of being offered a training contract as 70% of the trainees are selected from the people who have been on the placement.
The Culture
Our group of 12 students has really gelled. I have become friends with all of them and we have spent lunch times and been out after work on a number of occasions. I definitely intend to stay in touch with everybody.
It was very cheap as all the socials were paid for by the firm. We ate lunch in the canteen most days and this was also cheap as it is subsidised.
The bars we went to were very lively. Leeds has a great social scene!
During the 2 weeks, 2 external socials were arranged for us as well as 2 internal office drinks sessions. We also had the opportunity to play hockey. One lunch time we had the chance to go out for lunch with a few of the partners of the firm.
