Overview
Initially, there was an icebreaker task so that the students can get familiar with each other. This was followed by junior/senior employees coming in to share their career pathways and talk more about what it is KPMG do and what their core values are. The next day students were able to shadow employees who worked in their chosen network (audit, tax or consulting). On the final day, students were assessed.
Skills
Yes, I would say my networking skills have improved slightly, but not significantly. The insight days did not teach me any new skills or develop my current ones. Instead, students were given information to digest and opportunities to question employees. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more had they taught us new skills or shown us how we could improve our current skills.
Business Insight
It was insightful. It gave me a good understanding of what career progression would look like if I were to stay with the company.
Culture
I found the company culture mirrors the core values they possess. The culture gave the impression that employees are very hardworking and busy, however, will try as best as they can to engage in conversation when approached. The general atmosphere was friendly. Staff/employees were always kind and courteous.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight a lot. I found it quite informative as it made me look at the company in a new light. It gave very good opportunities to ask questions. I really liked doing group activities and getting to know the other students on the programme. I would have enjoyed it more had they taught us some new skills and allowed for more group activities.
Yes
I would advise them to join an insight day programme too because I found mine quite useful. I would advise them to study KPMG's core values well and prepare answers by using scenarios where they have exercised these core values. I'd also recommned them to look at KPMG's ESG and AI posts.
