Overview
5 day insight, with each day consisting of similar format but with different parts of the bank. Given opportunity to listen and ask questions in panel talks, network throughout the day, engage in job simulation and case studies and even take part in a mock interview at the end of the week also. This was also to give us an idea of what applying and doing a real role in the bank would be like.
Skills
The skill which i learnt which i especially wasnt aware of the importance before is networking. Its vital in any job but especially finance, where its likely you may need the aid of other employees to ensure your work is of highest standard. I also developed personable skills such as communication and team work via various activities which all pushed my out of my comfort zone (but i was grateful for!)
Business Insight
At first it was alot to take in since i had such a vague idea of things but the depth gone into explaining everything and all the different perspectives that were provided, weather it be from analysts, presidents or MDs certainly helped understand things more. Light was even shed on the more unconventional roles in the firm such as CADP etc. The ability to move within roles was also explained and emphasised as a benefit.
Culture
The culture was great. Diversity didnt appear to be a problem and the inclusivity of different types of people didnt seem forced either. There is a strong sense of pride for working for JPM amongst all the employees and it was also clear to see that hard work and specific standards were paramount in the firm. In terms of atmosphere, the working environment seemed very modern and it seemed like a nice place to work
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my insight. Coming into it, I was slightly overwhelmed due to the calibre of other students and my lack of prior knowledge. But i swiftly acclimatised and was able to make the best out of the week as it went on. I looked forward to going in each day and learning more about the bank and the sector. All students and staff were friendly and I came out of it 10x better.
Yes
Be honest in your application. Due to diversity and inclusion, they enjoy recruiting people who arent your “regular banking” prospects but still have fundamentals such as readiness to learn, curiosity, hardworking traits and more. When applying in interviews make sure to make yourself stand out and such your uniqueness. In terms of applying aswell, get your application in ASAP and do the video interview ASAP. I think the quicker the better as it also shows proactivity.
