Audit and Assurance Vacation Scheme Review

Very variable. Wide variety of different daily tasks that allowed to experience a large range of areas in the business in a short period of team. Daily plan definitely varies by team but we had Daily stand-up meetings to discuss the plans for the day as well as spending lots of time on client site. Generally the day would include a mixture of client work and online live training on teams calls specifically designed for the vacation students.

I would say I have learnt a lot of new skills during the internship. A lot of audit specific skill that I had never come across as well as developing my Excel skills too. But most importantly I learnt about the important of networking and how to do it effectively as well as improving my planning and time management skills. I would say that the support of my peers also gave me confidence to back up my work and present my findings to the client.

I would say that you get a very good introduction to the business areas in the induction as well as the paths you can take into the firm, so from the outset you have a good understanding of what skills are of most use in each of the busines areas. It was interesting to see just how transferrable a lot of skills developed are and the opportunities for movement within the firm seemed quite exciting also.

The company culture is one of respect and inclusion. I was honestly surprised by just how lovely everyone I interacted with was. I did not expect to feel as welcomed as I did and I felt comfortable to ask anyone for help knowing that they wouldn't judge you for the questions you asked. Furthermore there is quite a social atmosphere in the firm, with lots of opportunities to connect with your colleagues out of a working environment.

I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the vacation scheme. I was amazed by the amount of exposure I received throughout the scheme and enjoyed every day as they were never the same. I would also say that the people at the firm are a strong reason as to why I enjoyed the scheme so much. I have enjoyed working with not only the members of my team but also the other interns and I feel like we formed a strong bond over the time together.

In terms of the application process the online assessment are quite similar to others although a good understanding of Deloitte's values will definitely help in terms of the personality side of the assessments. In terms of interview prep it is definitely important to have some knowledge of the firm and business area you are going into but they do not expect you to be an expert already. The most important aspect for me would be being enthusiastic and willing to learn and grow.
