Overview
My experience was being integrated within a single client team and working with the team on varied tasks. This could range from helping one member manage risk assessments or helping enough to draft memos.
Skills
The internship is a good taste of what Deloitte offers, because you are integrated within a team you can gain an understanding of what the day to day offers whilst gaining testimonials from the people who actually do the work. The most interesting part is being involved in the more client facing work, going onto client site and interacting with people in a professional setting.
Responsibilities
I was often given a separate task that would normally be given to a Y1/Y2 grad. Frequently I would be given a task and told to work through it in my own time, allowing me to develop excel skills and work out the best way of doing it for me; although I was always encouraged and supported when I was confused or wanted to ask questions
Support & Guidance
A decent amount, along side work you have specific SVS events and meetings to help whilst also being given a specific buddy or people leader. Additionally I also got regular verbal feedback from my manager and other members of the team.
Culture
The company had a reasonably good culture, it was professional and very work focused with not much happening outside of that. The team was social and active although not much happened company wise outside of work, with only quarterly office drinks. The other interns were good however and would often be up to do things after work/ in the evenings providing a good social balance.
Your Impressions
It was an enjoyable experience. Although I did not find myself in love with audit I feel it did give me a real world appreciation of their job, troubles and the day to day of the role. I feel like I also got a appreciation of what Deloitte is like as a company and what a full time job would be like and provide.
Yes
To not be intimidated by what uni you went to, they operate in both a university and degree blind manner; the most popular degree I encountered was Chemistry. Additionally I would not be too cowed by the process, they are mainly trying to understand you as a person and work out if you would be a good fit and thus to not be intimidated by the process.
