Overview
As an intern, I shadow client engagements and have the liberty to reach out to any senior members of the team to learn more about their work. As part of my engagement work, I work on reformatting slides, summarising policies and reviewing documents for flaws.
Skills
I developed my listening skills, whereby I talked to as many people as possible in 4 weeks to absorb most of their knowledge. This enhanced my networking capabilities. I honed in on my skills of reading big bodies of text efficiently and summarizing them in a succinct manner.
Responsibilities
I was given a reasonable amount of responsibility relative to my lack of specific expertise in Risk and Assurance. I was treated as a member of staff with liabilities and responsibilities of integrity and confidentiality. My work was reviewed and checked by senior members.
Support & Guidance
The presence of an integrated system with a Career Coach, a Buddy and networks that I have access to contributing to has been fundamental in allowing me to feel proactive and settle in easier.
Culture
Very flexible and comfortable to be in with no one breathing over your shoulder to complete work. Everyone is very accommodating and curious to learn about us as interns and help us climb our career ladder.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it greatly it was wonderful to meet people from different parts of the world with varied passions and learn from people that have devoted so much of their time to the firm and its development.
Yes
Be willing to talk to people it isn't as daunting as it may seem and build your network greatly.
