Overview
90% of my day is creating CAD designs and manufacturing prototypes using 3D printers (resin and FDM). Registering some documentation for purchase orders.
Skills
CAD was definitely my biggest area of improvement. I was sent to an essentials and advanced SolidWorks course. Time and task management is one of the biggest outcome.
Responsibilities
Absolutely. The managers are very keen to help but do not take you step by step through your project. You have the freedom of choice and how you want to approach it. It comes with higher responsibility and reward in skills learned.
Support & Guidance
Communication with my line manager and other employees was perfect. Everybody is very skilled and keen to share these abilities with me. The Placement Team role was crucial when it comes to my adaptation to BAT and feeling more comfortable at the company.
Culture
It absolutely is a professional environment but it is also very friendly at the same time. Everybody knows that projects need to be delivered to the highest standards but that does not stop anyone from being friendly and joke sometimes :)
Your Impressions
It was absolutely better than my expectations. I would recommend doing the role at BAT to anyone who is seeking development in CAD. BAT people are very supportive and they understand that the biggest priority to the interns is to learn.
Yes
When applying for the role, show your passion to engineering. A good way of doing that is creating a portfolio that you will send with your application. Do not be afraid to talk about your side project and interest in the subject. If you love engineering, you will definitely like it here at BAT.
