Overview
Assisting the Global Compensation team with responsibilities such as global mobility transfers, year end officership reviews as well as RFPs/RFIs (Request for Proposal/ Request for Information) about the companies’ compensation policies. Assisted the Global Benefits Team with completing renewals with vendors, meeting with new joiners to the firm to explain benefits available to them, researching new benefit schemes that will be cost effective and improve firms competitiveness and assisting with benefit queries from employees.

Being part of such a renowned organization like Wellington Management has allowed me to grow professionally by gaining practical experience and exposure to real-world challenges. This has helped me to better understand the industry and the dynamics of working in a professional environment. I have also had the chance to build a strong network of contacts within the organisation including colleagues, managers and other professionals who have provided guidance, mentorship, and support. Finally, I have been provided with invaluable opportunities to develop and enhance a wide range of skills. These include technical skills specific to my role, such as how to liaise with vendors, creating various reports and learning the systems used daily in such an organization as well as soft skills like communication, teamwork, and time management.
Responsibilities
Yes! I was given significant responsibility during my placement. I was tasked with running monthly reports, leading research projects, and presenting my findings in meetings. These responsibilities allowed me to develop my analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
Support & Guidance
Yes, I received substantial support and guidance during my placement. We were each assigned buddies and had opportunities to have catchups with colleagues around the office, regardless of their seniority. Numerous training seminars were available to help us develop both technical and soft skills, and I was able to join a cohort to develop specialist skills, such as Python. This supportive environment greatly enhanced my learning experience.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere were very good. People were more than willing to talk to and help you, regardless of their seniority. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly around the office, eager to hear new opinions and ideas. It was a very collaborative company, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
Your Impressions
I had an amazing year surrounded by an incredible team and a supportive manager. They went above and beyond to ensure I understood the role and felt comfortable. My buddy also made sure to have weekly check-ins to ensure I was doing well mentally. I gained valuable experience in asset management and met incredible people with whom I still stay in contact. I highly recommend this placement to anyone looking to carry out a year in the financial services industry.
