Overview
I worked as a LIFT intern in the Energy and Infrastructure department. The client market development team that I worked with kindly gave me a wide variety of tasks, including working on a range of different client pitches, research work for partners and helping with marketing materials.
Skills
The internship has provided me with invaluable skills. I gained an understanding of how the firm and the Energy & Infrastructure group markets itself to clients, as well as how cross-practice groups work together. I developed strong written and oral communication, and time management skills. I was also exposed to the firm's use of technology including AI and document management systems.
Responsibilities
I was lucky enough to be given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I worked on a variety of client pitches and marketing materials. I frequently emailed lawyers and global business development individuals. I also helped run a few projects, and was responsible for email communication.
Support & Guidance
I constantly received support during my internship. I had helpful introduction calls with the Graduate Recruitment team and my departmental team before joining. Throughout my internship, my team's instructions were always very clear, and I was actively encouraged to ask questions when I was unsure or was curious about a particular process. The team made an extra effort to offer wider support in understanding project finance including sending videos and putting me in contact with lawyers.
Culture
The company's culture is very friendly and open. I made an active effort to network with those in my group as well as trainees and associates in other practice areas. Everyone was willing to chat and answer any questions that I had. I was also invited to several socials within my group and across the firm, which was a great environment to meet people.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and would highly recommend that any future CC trainee applies! I learnt so much throughout and I know that all the experience and advice that I received will place me in good stead when I start my training contract. It is a great way to learn more about the firm, develop transferable skills and network.
Yes
My advice to applying to an internal CC LIFT internship would be to research CC and understand what the firm does, how it markets itself to clients and how it is structured. Make sure to tailor your CV to the specific department you are applying to and tailor your experience to the skills that they are looking for. On the internship, my advice would be to be enthusiastic, open-minded and inquisitive.
