Overview
Meeting with various team members, helping out with tasks where possible and getting involved with the work whilst continuously learning about what the team, and wider network does. You join a lot of meetings and get explanations from various people. At the start, you also set objectives that you are working towards during the placement. At the end, you have to complete a case study, which is something you do during your time as well.
Skills
Yes, you learn and develop many skills. There are many development sessions that you join as an intern and helps you work on your soft skills, such as communication. There are many training sessions as well, where you can improve your presentation skills. Other skills that you improve upon are your technological skills, constantly learning about office tech. Communication improvement includes written communication for example when emailing people, or messaging them and what is an appropriate manner.
Responsibilities
You were given varying bits of responsibility depending on what projects you get involved with and how complex a task it. Some deals were only just starting so the opportunity to have much responsibility wasn't too applicable, but there was definitely a chance to have responsibility within tasks, especially considering as interns you don't necessarily have much experience within the roles, so they teach and help you a lot in order to be able to help out on projects.
Support & Guidance
I gained a lot of support. Starting with a meeting with your buddy, you have them as your first point of call. Then you have a people leader where you have regular check ins and make sure that you know what to do/bring up any concerns that you may have. You can always ask questions to a of people and people are very happy to answer and help you out, no matter how small or frequent the questions are.
Culture
The atmosphere was very friendly and not intense. Of course, you need to get your work done, and that is expected throughout, but everyone is very nice, you can have a chat about other things than work and make actual friends with your co-workers, whilst also maintaining a professional environment and respecting everyone around you. You know that there are different levels and grades, but people from all grades will speak to each other, and there's not too much ranking within the firm.
Your Impressions
The placement was really good and went by very quickly. There were lots of opportunities to get involved, and lots of guidance and support provided. The people were very friendly and always happy to help which made the environment very nice to work in and helps to nurture learning and development as you aren't afraid to ask questions. There were many different opportunities ranging from working on smaller tasks, to shadowing more senior people.
Yes
I would say make sure that you take the time to research the area that you are applying for, so that you have some base idea as to which department you are entering. I would then say for the interview questions make sure you prep and have examples to hand so that you can go into detail about characteristic traits. Ensure that you know the reasons for why you want to apply to Deloitte, and have an awareness about current affairs.
