Overview
My role involves assisting the property management team with the management of a variety of commercial property including retail parks, industrial sites, office buildings and shopping centres. I have been involved with all areas of property management, such as the preparation of service charge budgets, managing tenant accounts and arrears, setting up new leases, arranging site access for contractors, collecting turnover figures from tenants and calculating turnover rents, dealing with tenant queries, preparing management reports, and calculating service charge caps and rent reviews.
Skills
This year has provided me with invaluable experience which I will take with me throughout my future career. I have also developed upon my confidence and communication skills, both with clients and other professionals.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of autonomy in the tasks I was given from the beginning of my placement, allowing me to work things out for myself with the knowledge that I could ask for help if needed, which I found to be a great way to learn. I gradually gained more responsibility throughout the year and completed more independent projects.
Support & Guidance
There was a lot of support available from the graduate team and HR. My team and line manager also provided a lot of guidance throughout my placement.
Culture
There were opportunities to be involved with things with the wider company, outside of your office and department. As a worked in a smaller office there was less of a social side to the job than there is in larger offices, but there was definitely still a good balance.
Your Impressions
I have really enjoyed my placement, both in terms of the works and projects I have been involved with, and the people I have met and worked alongside.
Yes
Spend time on your application and make sure it accurately reflects your experience and what you would bring to the role. Be prepared for interviews and try not to overthink it too much! I would absolutely recommend applying for a placement position at Savills.
