    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • I was in the valuations department so day to day was compiling comparable properties for the valuation process. This involved going on property data bases such as costar and Loopnet. I was then tasked to call agents if there were gaps in the evidence. I also was involved in report writing. I also went on site visits.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Both. I had a rough idea of the valuation process from university, but tasked myself to understand the process fully. I believe I have done so.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • The Summer Scheme was set very well. Each week we would have a handful of talks by each department outlining what they did. Savills also put on networking events for us to further understand the business and potential roles. The HR department were also very useful for helping with more specific questions.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was brilliant. The team I was in were lovely. They helped me with any questions I had and made sure I understood every task they gave me. I was lucky to have two graduates in my team who were my age and treated me more like an equal than someone below them. I had lunch with the graduates in my team a couple of times and they were very chatty and made me feel at ease. Around the office everyone is very smiley and always up for a chat if I wanted one.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight. I always felt involved, I was never sat at my desk just twiddling my thumbs. As I mentioned earlier, there were a lot of networking events put on during my time at the company and every point I felt included and if I had any questions felt that I could ask them at any point during the time.

  • 7. Would you recommend Savills to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Savills
  • Make sure your CV is in good order. Don't just list jobs you have done, go into what you learnt from each experience, what skills you gained and what responsibilities you had. When writing the cover letter, show that you understand the company, what they do and their values etc. The assessment centre was split into two sections one which was a group discussion surrounding real estate and workplace questions and the other was networking. For the group discussion brush up on your real estate knowledge, recent trends, examples etc. For the networking make sure to leave a good impression. Be as chatty as possible and try and be remembered (in a good way!)
