Summer Scheme Student Review

My day runs from 9:00-5:30. Mostly I have been involved with assisting Graduates in the team with finalising reports for valuations. I have been supporting them by doing the Due Diligence for the reports as well as finding comparable properties to our subject properties we are valuing. I occasionally get to go out on site visits to measure properties we are valuing. I have been working on Office, Residential and Industrial properties whilst being here.

I have developed my skills of using Excel, Co-Star, Lonres and Rightmove Plus which are all very useful sites for researching. Improving my Excel skills will be very useful for my 3rd year at University. I have broadened my knowledge of the valuation sector within Real Estate and applied my University knowledge to real life scenarios which has been interesting. In terms of communication, I have had the opportunity to phone Agents acting for landlords which has improved my confidence.

I have been able to contribute to final stage valuation reports which has been a valuable experience. The opportunity to phone agents is also a good responsibility to have been given and makes you feel like you are positively contributing to the team. Doing my own research whilst finding comparable properties has also been a responsibility I have been given.

The support from HR has been fantastic. Throughout the summer scheme we have had a variety of events organised for us such as: Networking with Directors and Graduates, Departmental Overviews about the different teams Savills has to offer, Savills Summer Party etc. These have been a great opportunity to meet other people within the business who are always more than happy to answer questions and help the students out. We also had a half way through HR catch up which allowed us to provide an update or ask for help half way through the placement which was helpful.

The atmosphere at the company is a very positive one. Everyone I have met is always happy to answer questions and help the summer students out. After departmental overviews there was always a chance to ask the person giving the talk questions, if there was not enough time they were more than happy to answer questions via email, this has all helped me learn so much which I really appreciate from the firm. The culture is very friendly and they really do want us to learn, develop and have the best chance of performing well and potentially begin a career here.

I have certainly enjoyed my time here at Savills. I have learnt a lot and enjoyed being in the valuation team. The people has been a very positive aspect for me, it has been great to get to know people throughout the business in lots of different teams who have all been very welcoming and answered any questions I might have. It has also been very insightful in terms of learning more about the APC qualification which is useful for the future.

Savills is all about the people, be yourself and work hard and you will do great! Throw yourself into as many tasks as possible and ask loads of questions which is the best way to learn. Make sure you are up to date with industry knowledge as this is super helpful when it comes to the assessment centre's.
