    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • My job entailed working alongside other planner in the team observing them in their job roles as a fully qualified planner. I attended meetings surrounding a range of projects at different stages of planning, including projects I was aiding with and those I was witnessing more as an insight into new projects. My day to day tasks included ongoing monitoring of submitted planning applications and working on a specific piece of work I was assigned, which included a planning statement, planning appraisal and policy reviews across my placement. I also had the opportunity to meet with people in other departments and have an insight into their roles.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt how to work in a professional setting including within meetings and emails. I have learnt an entirely new insight into planning in a practical context and have gained the ability to decipher policy, applications and consultation comments. I have been able to develop my knowledge of the planning system and the process that contribute to the submission and creation of plans.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • I was able to attend meetings organised by the graduate team with members from departments across the business where we had the opportunity to learn about their job roles and ask questions. We were provided with an insight of all the individual teams within Savills and how they all interact and rely on one another for the business to operate at its full potential. Within the office setting there are a number of different department that I have been able to observe working and talk with people within the department about their roles. I enjoyed learning about the application of Savills values within the business and have been able to learn how they operate.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I really enjoyed being in the office and the atmosphere of the office environment. The Reading office is a slightly smaller office so I have been able to familiarise myself with a number of people in the office both within and outside of my team. There was a very welcoming and friendly feel to the office. I had a chance to attend one of the office organised events which I enjoyed and had a chance to talk to more people from the office, other offices and clients.
