    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Providing market leading audit services to an unprecedented range of clients including one of the largest shares of FTSE 100 companies of any UK audit firm. Day to day as an intern is essentially going admin tasks for the associates and gaining exposure to the software used at the firm.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learned about the software and processes used in audit, as well as how to interact with other team members and clients. It has greatly improved my confidence in the corporate environment as well as how to work amongst a team, and how to ask for help or clarification if something is not making sense. I have also learned how important it is to create a friendly relationship with both your team and your cohort, and have gained communication skills through that.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a reasonable level of responsibility, where I had to communicate directly with the client or prepare documents that went straight to partner review. However I was supported through all these responsibilities and they were explained well with a clear idea that if I was ever unsure about anything I only needed to ask. The tasks were never so challenging that I believed I would be unable to complete them without guidance, but they were also interesting and were pleasantly challenging.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support, and I think being in a big team with multiple people of all levels helped with this. Outside my audit team I also had a buddy who I was able to ask questions, and a career coach who I could go to with any concerns. There was a good understanding from everyone that this work was very new to me and so they were all very good at supporting me through my learning.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was very pleasant. There was a strong emphasis on being comfortable in the working environment, and this idea was reinforced by employees all the way up to partner level. I enjoyed that there was a strong emphasis on getting to know the other interns in the cohort as it allowed me to have a much nicer time having made friends my age very quickly within the office. I enjoyed the overall feel of both the office and the people within it.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I had a brilliant time at my internship. I chose to come into the office everyday of my placement as I enjoyed being amongst the people, and especially the other interns so much. There was the option to work remotely on some days which I know some others did appreciate and it was nice to have as an option. Even the more scary parts of the internship I enjoyed as I felt supported by my team.

  • 7. Would you recommend PwC to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to PwC
  • The advice I would give is to do a bit of research into the line of service as well as the location you are applying to so you can be as prepared as possible in the application process. If you get an offer, please try to join in some of the social events, as it can be a great way to get to know your cohort. I would also suggest saying yes to every learning opportunity such as the opportunity to go to a client site.
